animated clubs Juggling has been a hobby for almost as long as computers. Back when the computers were slower, I used to get to practice while I waited for the darn thing to compile. Now, I have to set aside time!

Unfortunately, I'm not nearly as active as I once was. I still juggle, but I don't make it to the juggling meetings or festivals very often. But don't give up on me - I'll be around again.

* TexasJuggling@egroups.com is a low-traffic email list designed to announce events of interest to jugglers in the Texas area. This is the best way a Texas Juggler can keep in touch of festivals and similar events. If you wish, you can read the archives. The list service started as Onelist, but was bought by Egroups, and then by Yahoo. Eventually, this list will probably be moved off of those services and I'll handle it myself. The services constantly changing, and mail (sometimes) not reaching AOL users has convinced me that the list services aren't worth the trouble.

  Texas Juggling Clubs

If you know of clubs which aren't listed, send me the url to their home page, and I'll add a link. If you know of a Texas juggling club which needs a home page, I'll gladly do simple pages here, just as I've done with the others.

For areas which do not have a club which regularly meets, I'd like to keep a list of contacts (email or phone) that would let other jugglers looking for someone to play with know who to contact. If you would like to be listed as a contact for the area where you live, drop me an email.

Juggling Links

These are links to various juggling related sites. There are lots of sites - I just picked some of my favorites.

* The Juggling Information Service (JIS) is the largest juggling site on the net. However, the site is no longer updated with the exception of festival listings. There is some great information there, but don't trust the club listings, and be aware that any web page or email address you get from there may now be invalid. For club contacts, see my next link.
* Worldwide Juggling Clubs has been compiled by Mini, to shore up the JIS pages which are out of date.
* The International Juggling Association (IJA) is known mostly for their annual week-long juggling festival, and for Juggle magazine.
* The Christian Jugglers Association is a non-denominational, non-profit association meant to encourage Christian jugglers.
* Bob Mendelshohn at Damp Rabbit Graphics. Bob created the animated juggling graphic shown above. I've written a juggling screensaver using that animation, in addition to an animation I created myself. It's on my downloads page.
* The Juggling Tutor. has online lessons to teach basic three ball juggling. They also sell a CD rom teaching more advanced juggling. (For instance, four balls, five balls, clubs, devil sticks, and cigar boxes.)
* JugglingHelp Home Page.. A very nice juggling site. If you are looking for help in learning a new pattern, try this site.
* Matt's Complete Juggling Page.. Contains basic instructions, lots of patterns, and information about siteswaps. Matt Macauley did a great job here.
* DevilStick.org. Devilsticks are sort of a specialty item, practiced by many jugglers. This is a great site for information about devil sticks.
* Bowers.Com has a tutorial on contact juggling, including .AVI clips so you can see how it should look.
* ContactJuggling.org. They have lots of animated gifs, which can take some time to load, but it's a good way to learn. This is the best contact juggling site I've seen.

Juggling Equipment

There are a number of companies which supply juggling equipment. The three most popular (by my estimation) are Dube', Renegade,and Todd Smith.

* Brian Dube' Juggling Equipment..
* Renegade Juggling Equipment..
* Todd Smith Juggling Equipment..
* Goof Proof Juggling sells various props, and they are based in Austin. In particular, beginners looking for low cost juggling clubs just to get started should check them out. They also carry Beard juggling equipment and a large misc. selection.
* Aerotech Projects is the company that makes Globalls (as well as other illuminated equipment.) Globalls are the coolest juggling prop I've seen in a long time. They are illuminated balls, with built-in rechargable batteries. They are expensive - but for professionals and serious amateurs, I think they are worth it.
* Rolling Thunder - Eclectic Metalwork. If you've been trying to find jewelry desgigned for jugglers, then this is the place! Heather has a variety of patterns, and most can be done as earrings, earcuffs, or necklaces. (Site was 404 at last check. I'm leaving this for now, and I'll ask Heather whether she has a new page.)
* The Compleat Gamester sells juggling equipment, darts supplies, ping-pong stuff, and more.
* Infinite Illusions. Yo-yo's are their mainstay, but they sell a variety of juggling equipment, tops, and similar items. They also have a "how to" section with instructions for juggling, devil-sticking, etc.
* Unicycle, fournisseur des Arts du Cirque. As you might guess, they sell unicycles. They also sell a wide variety of circus arts items. Their web page is navigable in French or English, but the english version is a bit wanting. Still, they are the only supplier I know for some of the items they carry. They carry walking globes, stilts, rola-bolas, tight wire equipment, trapeze equipment, and much more.
* VIPA. A relatively new company, based in England, selling a wide variety of juggling equipment, along with some odds and ends. (Site was 404 at last check.)

I've seen a number of people ask how they can make their own juggling equipment. I've never seen homemade clubs which I would be happy with, so I recommend purchasing from one of the companies above. But for beanbags, there are a number of patterns that work very well. Eventually, I'll put together the pattern I usually use, which makes simple (and easy to make) square beanbags. The pages below will show how to make fancier (and harder to make) round beanbags.
* The Coulee Region Jugglers beanbags page has instructions on making your own beanbags.
* Vete's Juggling Page has info for making a number of props including beanbags, rola-bolas and cigar boxes.

Juggling Books and Videos

Naturally, many of the venders such as Dube', Renegade, and Todd Smith carry books and videos, but there are others as well.

* Alan Plotkin Festival Video Productions has a number of video's available for sale. Juggling, clowining, unicycling, street performing, and yo-yoing are some of the categories.
* Charlie Dancey has written books on the subject. "Encyclopedia of Ball Juggling", "Compendium of Club Juggling", and "How to Ride Your Unicycle".
* Cheap Ass Games carries the book "Contact Juggling" by James Ernest.

  Performers - Texas
If you would like to hire jugglers in Texas, this might help.

* The Flaming Idiots started performing in the Dallas area. They were regulars at Scarborough Ren Faire until 1999. They've left the renfaire circuit for bigger things, such as off-broadway. Pyro, Gyro, and Walter - Best Wishes! They are currently based in Austin, but spend much of their time traveling.

* The Side Street Circus. Magic, music, mime, juggling, and a friend of mine, Rodney Barton!
* Walkabout Productions is Connie Leaverton's homepage. Based in Austin, Connie performs all around (and outside of) the country. Her comedy, juggling, and unicycling are all top-notch.
* The Magical Juggling of Jason Christensen . Jason is a Dallas area juggler, performing a wide variety of acts.

Performers - Well known

* The Flying Karamazov Brothers!. The Karamazov's are possibly the funniest and best known jugglers in the country. They tour, and the schedule (among other things) is available on their home page. Whether you juggle or not, don't miss them!
* The Flaming Idiots are a Texas troupe, but they also fall into the well-known category, which gets them an extra listing!
* Anthony Gatoo is simply amazing. I believe most of his performances are in Vegas.

  Juggling Related Software
* Juggle Saver is a screensaver for Windows NT/95/98. It uses OpenGL to handle the graphics, and does a great job. This is the screensaver I use personally. A demo is available, but for all the bells and whistles, you have to register - a mere $10 and well worth it. This handles site swaps, and can juggle balls, clubs, rings, or a combination.
Warning: The author seems to have dropped from site. Emails to him bounce back. I recommend not sending registration money unless you've already been in contact with him.
* The Juggling Hands screen saver is freeware, written by Stephen Whitis. (Hey, that name sounds familiar?) It has two different animations. One shows an invisible juggler with two white-gloved hands juggling three red balls in a basic cascade. (The invisible juggler was the easy part!) The second is a beautiful animation of three blue clubs, as seen at the top of this page.

The clubs animation was created by Bob Mendelsohn.

The Juggling Hands screen saver was written in Delphi 1, and will work on Win3.1, Win/95, or Win/NT systems.

* JugglePro is a software package designed to show visual simulations of site swaps. (Site swaps are a mathematical method of describing a juggling pattern.) Written by Ed Carstens.
* JONGL is a software package originally designed for Linux. Windows and Amiga versions are now available, also. Jongl is the beginning of the german word for juggling: Jonglieren. This software uses real-time OpenGL, in combination with offline Ray-Tracing to draw the juggling graphics.
